Vintage kokeshi by sato suigai / 32 cm

Magnificent vintage kokeshi, illustrated with peonies, created by sato suigai. Sato suigai was born in okubo in 1920. He came from a family that worked in silk. He began a career as a painter at the age of 18 and then devoted himself to the art of kokeshi from from 1948 and also pursued careers in fashion design, engineering and mechanics. Sato san has won numerous awards including that of prime minister in 1966.
