Unique theater hall. The thaliatheater in ijmuiden is named after the greek goddess thalia, the muse of drama. The building at breesaapstraat 52 was built in 1890 as an old catholic church. The interest of the faithful was so great that they were forced to build a new church elsewhere in the city. It was located at wilhelminakade 119 and is still in use. The later theater became empty and became a basketry and net factory for the ijmuiden fishing fleet. In 1930 the church was converted into a cinema, switching from the gothic style to that of the amsterdam school and art deco. The latest film was shown, sometimes interrupted by a loud announcement that a fishing ship was about to set sail, after which the men left the room on their way to sea. During the second world war, the germans confiscated the theater to show propaganda films. Ultimately, that is the reason that the theater survived the war. In 1945, thalia became a 'normal' theater again, with the understanding that theater performances were also presented, often by not the least of the stage, such as louis bouwmeester and heintje davids. Operation came to an end on january 2, 1961 and the theater remained empty until 1996. It then came into the hands of monique and john van waveren from hotel augusta, who had thalia beautifully renovated, retaining all ornaments, etc., and adapting it to the new situation: a theater where people can party, dance and eat, in short, a party theater...the beautiful, high stage hall with balcony and stage frame is very special. The technical facilities are optimal, which means that individual performances, mostly music, can still be programmed. In 2017, the haarlems dagblad reported that the owners, given their age, were looking for a successor. With only six examples ever made, this lamp is a very rare and valuable piece for any vintage and design enthusiast. The lamp, manufactured around 1930, combines cream-colored glass with elegant copper holders, which provides a tim.
