Painting signed gaspard de mouko, large painting on canvas orientalist portrait, oil on canvas, interior decoration gaspard de mouko (painter of cameroonian origin who initiated a generation of african painters such as eugène malonga...) gaspard de mouko is a cameroonian portraitist and landscaper, pioneer of the genre in sub-saharan africa. The first known works of gaspard de mouko date from the end of the 1930s, preceding those of artists such as ben enwonwu or gérard sekoto who enjoyed great success on the anglo-saxon art market. A traveling artist, he joined congo brazzaville in the early 1940s then abidjan in the 1950s. His painting quickly met with great success. He notably painted portraits of politicians such as general de gaulle and the first deputy jean-félix tchikaya. A very influential painter, he introduced modern painting to congo brazzaville and became the leader of the first generation of independent painters in this country.
