Perfect condition for this 1970 set, consisting of a milk jug and a fruit cup signed "hornsea pottery". The "saffron" collection, designed by designer john clappison, features the emblematic colors of the decade, orange and brown. The décor consists of a myriad of small daisies. Milk jug ø8×h9, 5cm – fruit cup ø13×h6cm. At the forefront of british pottery after the second world war, john clappison created for hornsea pottery the most popular collections available in the uk. Born into a family that enjoyed the arts, he trained at the high school for arts and crafts in hull and then at the hull regional college of arts and crafts. The hornsea pottery factory, founded in 1949 in the yorkshire coastal town of hornsea, is famous for its contemporary and elegant tableware. The house created until 2000 before its judicial liquidation. Several pieces are exhibited at the hornsea museum, as well as in the permanent collections of the victoria and albert museum in london.
