Antique italian ceramic vase early XXcentury

This splendid and rare amphora was manufactured in the first half of the XX century. What’s unique about this piece of ceramic is the rich green colour which was obtained with copper and iron oxide, both materials that were considered extremely precious until the 50’s. This type of coloration was in fact used in little amounts and for small decorations on ceramics. This piece was salvaged from a pottery kiln in the area of melfi, southern italy, and before closing its doors in the early 60’s they decided to literally soak their last ceramic shapes in this colour in order not to waste a single drop of this copper and iron oxide green. The result of this action was a unique line of ceramics which were unique of its kind. We were lucky enough to salvage the last pieces.
