A stunning pallisy lobster plate, handcrafted around 1890-1900 by the artist álvaro josé in the city of caldas da rainha in portugal. Made of high-quality majolica, this plate with a diameter of 31 centimeters features a polychrome design of a lobster surrounded by intricate details of mussels, sea flora and sand. Signed with a stamp on the back of the plate that reads "álvaro josé" and underneath it "caldas da rainha". Weighs approximately 2.3 kilograms. In fantastic condition, has one minor chip on one of the antennas of the lobster (see photos). Pallisy is a type of decorative pottery that originated in france in the 16th century. It is characterised by its intricate molded designs of naturalistic subjects, such as animals, plants, and shells, which are then hand-painted with vibrant colors. Pallisy pottery is highly valued by collectors for its beauty, craftsmanship, and historical significance.
