A set of six vintage, limoges porcelain, fish dinner plates and platter. They are very collectible, with the illustrations showing both freshwater fish and river flower species alongside each other. Elegant and stylish they are all in perfect condition, with no chips, cracks or scratches. The plates have a wide border and "gold" line edge. The muted palette of soft pastel shades gives them a timeless quality. They all have the "limoges" porcelain mark on the undersides. The plates are large, measuring 26.5cms (10½") diameter and each weigh 450gms (15.8 ozs.) there are six different designs illustrating various fish swimming amongst reeds in lakes/rivers. Each design has a different flower on the side, such as water lilies, water iris and marsh marigolds. The landscapes in the backgrounds show a variety of trees, marshlands and hills. The fish are accurately represented, their fins, scales and tails have been 'picked out' in fine detail. Most impressive is the way the water has been "brushed" across the fish to give the impression of their movement through the water. The platter has no chips or cracks. It has a plain edge and the same motif as one of the plates. It measures 33cms/ 13" long X 23cms/ 9" wide it is deep too, 3.5cms/ 1½", so that the fish can be served with sauces and dressings, without risk of spillage. It weighs 1kg/ 2.2 lbs.
