Chimney bench

Large chimney bench of the basque country, also called suzulu, late 18th early 19th. These benches were traditionally installed near chimneys, and are sometimes also called negotiation benches, because they were used during routine negotiations between shepherds or peasants, the small folding shelf then serving as an office. In good condition, original paint, very nice patina.
