The older brothers trained in glasswork at the saint louis crystal factory and at the meisenthal glassworks with désiré christian worked with émile gallé as clerks or glass engravers-decorators. The eldest henri left him in 1897 and joined forces with the hinzelin glassworks in croismare to produce glassware in direct competition with those of gallé and daum, which bought it after their bankruptcy in 1933.
