1950's Extendable dining table by UP Zavody

This dining table was produced in the 1950’s in czechoslovakia by renowned up zavody and is the perfect piece for entertaining, larger dinner parties or the everyday family teatime. Before the ww2, up zavody was one of the leading furniture manufactures in europe. Up brand was synonymous with a modern, finest quality furniture. From the 1920’s to the late 1940’s, the (now) iconic architects jan vanek and jindrich halabala both worked at up brno as an art directors and introduced some incredible pieces over the years. Most of the furniture that was originally designed before the war, including this table, was due to its qualities and commercial success in production also later in the 1950’s and 1960’s. This particular piece is from 1956. This table has beautiful walnut veneer pattern on the sides and on the tabletop, the legs are made of solid oak. It operates as an extendable table, with a full length of 190 cm. Extending the table is very easy - the two sides simply slide outwards, the extra middle parts are hidden upside down underneath the main tabletop and can be effortlessly placed into the right position. Also the four tapering legs can be easily unscrewed (and screwed back again) which allows the table to be comfortably transport or stored when necessary. Produced in the 1950s, the table still holds great design appeal and is the perfect addition to a collector’s home. This piece is in great vintage condition showing only minimal natural wear and tear gained by using over the years. There is a small wear mainly on the table top and its sides.
