Old red lacquered wooden offering tray. Burmese origin in good condition see all the photos which are part of the description this large round tray is made of bamboo basketry and covered with several layers of cinnabar lacquer generally, bamboo and wood are used as a frame or base in the manufacture of lacquer works. Burmese (myanmar) lacquerware has a long tradition dating back to the 13th century. Lacquerware in burma is called "thitsi", which means the sap of a thitsi tree (melanhorrea usitata). Generally, bamboo and wood are used as a frame or base in making lacquer works. The art of achieving certain tonal qualities of color is a well-kept secret and it has been said that a master will not pass on this secret even to his wife and only to the most trustworthy of his sons.
