Asian bat cabinet, circa 1880
Description
Superb asian cabinet in carved chinese mahogany (toona sinensis). Carved with plant and animal motifs: 1 bat carved at the bottom of the piece of furniture. Very beautiful furnishing bronzes: keyhole in the shape of a bat, upper cupboard door decorated with 4 bronze bats facing each other (symbol of good fortune, happiness and longevity). 2 cupboards keys and locks ok very good condition, new polished waxed finish. Indochina (vietnam) or south china. Circa 1880-1900 it was then the period of japonism (1870-1910) and the colonies, furniture and objects from the far east were then fashionable, they came from china, indochina, or japan, when they are not reinterpreted by european cabinetmakers (viardot, perret & vibert, etc...).
