Old acid-etched crystal carafe
€38
Description
This old small carafe is made of crystal decorated with guilloché friezes. The pantogravure decoration is elegant: a guilloché ornament of delicate scrolls. This guilloché technique was widespread in the 19th century and at the very beginning of the 20th century: the crystal was coated with wax and the decoration was drawn with a pantogravure needle in the wax, then the object was immersed in a bath of acid which attacks the bare crystal. The faceted cut cap has a chip and does not appear to be original. In good condition, it measures 28.5 cm in height X 11 cm in diameter. I note a whitened deposit inside and scratches from use.
