Description
Dutch Modernist design armchair designed by Wim Rietveld and produced by Gispen. This armchair has a frame of black lacquered steel. The back and seat are both made of lacquered sheet steel and upholstered in green leather with a beautiful patina. The chair has two armrests made of Bakelite. The back of the spine is uncoated so you can see the steel. Armchair no. 415, and later called model 1401, belonged to a series of 'furniture for the simple interior', which was introduced in the mid-1950s. The armchair was first shown at the 10th Milan Triennale (1954) and was awarded a gold medal there. The dimensions are: 63 cm long x 60 cm wide x 70 cm high with a seat height of 38 cm.
