Coffee table type h 370 designed by jindrich halabala
Description
Officially listed as model h 370 but this coffee table is nicknamed the ‘spider table’ thanks to the shape of its legs and is a prime example of the pre ww2 modernist aesthetic adopted by many czech families. Originally designed by jindrich halabala and manufactured by renowned up brno, the table was in production from the 1930s to the late 1950s. This particular piece is believed to be produced during the 1950’s and has got a particularly beautiful walnut veneer. After 1948 all furniture production in the czechoslovakia was only organised through the state and it controlled manufacturing companies across the country. For some time they continued producing furniture design in pre war time but sometimes with some slight adjustments. In the 1950’s this table was produced not only by up brno but also by other manufactures across the country. In this case, it was made by a very small furniture maker stavbyt kromeriz. The table is in good vintage condition with some minimal wear. We have decided to keep the table in the original condition as much as possible including some imperfections and patina mainly on the wooden top.
