Delfts Polychrome plate with bird of paradise
Description
Small polychrome presentation plate hand-painted in holland with a delft style. It was manufactured in 1942 and 1985 by the velsen facbrique located in sassenheim, the netherlands. The plate was painted under glaze in a rather colorful way, with purple, orange, green, blue, yellow and black on the theme of the bird of paradise. Very good condition, if we look carefully and under a certain light presence of cracks on the glaze. There are two holes in the back if you want to put it on the wall. The front of the plate contains: the velsen factory mark (vls) (used until about 1985), the words "delfts polychrome", "handpainted" and "made in holland", a model number (1657) and also the painter's signature (tb?). - Keramiekfabriek velsen was established in 1920 in the city of velsen, near haarlem in the netherlands. In 1943, during the second world war, the factory had to move, and settled near the city of sassenheim. After the war the factory began to produce mainly delft faience, in white & blue and polychrome. It was above all the latter that made his fame because velsen uses a wider and lively range of coleurs than most of the other facience producers in delft.
