Very nice box box tramp art and perfectly preserved. It is extremely touching to discover the inscriptions "olivier servais soldier in the carabiniere 3rd battalion 4th company brussels" and the stamps "emile servais de faulx-les-tombes". After some research on the servais family, there is indeed a soldier named emile servais corteil who stood out during the war with his paratrooper dog glen, who died during the normandy landings, there is also a university professor emeritus and honorary inspector general, a luxembourg politician... Difficult to navigate but to deepen certainly. Tramp art (literally "art of tramps" or "art of vagabonds"), is an example of popular art mixing wood carving and woodworking that appeared in the united states during the second half of the nineteenth century, and more particularly from the 1870s. It lasted until the 1940s, before declining. There are also traces of this art in europe during the same period. Many men, women and children, mostly from the working or middle class and almost all anonymous, have engaged in this type of folk art. This folk art is characterized by carving and carving small pieces of wood with notched edges made of recycled materials, including cigar boxes and crates, to achieve simple geometric shapes and patterns. These small pieces are then assembled, then glued or studded into successive thin layers to give birth to everyday objects, such as jewelry boxes, boxes, frames, ... Ours is probably based on a cigar box, we can discover some traces on the lid. In short, big crush for this unique and exceptional object.
