Italian carved walnut cassone 17th century. Fine quality italian walnut cassone with rectangular top, central blank cartouche. Carved figures flank either side, these would possibly be the husband and wife as cassone's were often given as a marital gift. Recessed side panels with wrought iron handles. Gadrooned edge to the base, standing on large beautifully carved paw feet to the front and sledge feet to the rear. Interior has been later paper lined.evidence of dead inactive worm, which is the norm bearing in mind this piece is over 350 years old. Repairs to lid and bottom boards. Age: 1680.
