5 Gteborg 501 chairs by Cassina, design Erik Gunnar Asplund
Description
5 Goteborg chairs produced by Cassina in the 1990s. The 501 Goteborg chair was designed by Erik Gunnar in 1934-1937. The frame is made of wood. The backrest is filled with polyurethane foam and the padded seats are covered in premium black leather. The structure of the chairs is very solid. The leather parts show some signs of wear consistent with age and use. The leather seat of one of the chairs has a visible scratch mark (see detailed photos) All chairs have a producer's stamp and an engraved serial number. The Gothenburg solid wood designer chair is the conceptual representation of the rationalism of the Swedish architect who designed the furnishings of Gothenburg City Hall. The slightly convex rounded curves recall the stylistic features of the Bauhaus school. This chair also echoes a tribute to the legendary thonet n° 14 chair, which is among the first examples of designer furniture on an industrial scale.
