Description
An original pair of mid century dining chair designed by oswald haerdtl and produced by the ton furniture company in their factory in former czechoslovakia. Oswald haerdtl is considered as one of the most influential austrian architects of the 20th century and he designed this now iconic chair simply labelled 'no. 515’ in 1955. Haerdtl was a master of proportions. On this chair he created an expressive design form whilst using a minimalist language. Like his architecture, there is a total focus on every detail, aesthetics and comfort. Haerdtl is using the old thonet bentwood technique to create an elegant shape of the backrest and the materiality of the dark brown colour and texture of the beech wood. This all makes this chair as modern and attractive as it was some 70 years ago. This piece is in great vintage condition. It has only some minimal wear and patina on its surfaces gained from its use over the years.
