René Gabriel wooden armchair

Rare armchair by French designer René Gabriel (1890-1950) in the 1950s. The structure of the armchair is in solid oak, with a superb patina, the back and seat are in white/ecru terry fabric. Good condition. In 1944, the Ministry of Reconstruction and Urban Planning entrusted him with responsibility for the creation of emergency furniture. Subsequently, he was named President of the Society of Decorative Artists. In homage to its major role in design, the Salon des Arts Ménagers created the famous René Gabriel Prize. DV563
