La femme bleue - original hand-signed lithograph - félix labisse - 18/165. 74 X 55 cm. Félix labisse, born march 9, 1905 in marchiennes and died january 29, 1982 in neuilly-sur-seine, is a french surrealist painter whom the surrealists have, however, refused to recognize as one of their own1. On the fringes of andré breton's movement, he was linked between 1947 and 1948, because of his friendship with christian dotremont, to the adventure of revolutionary surrealism. From the early 1940s, his work was recognized and supported by robert desnos, paul éluard, philippe soupault, and jacques prévert. Patrick waldberg also devoted an important monograph to him in 1970. In parallel with his career as a painter, labisse pursued a career as a decorator for theatre, dance, and opera2.
