Art Deco wrought iron bird mirror in the style of Gilbert Poillerat, circa 1930

€2,300

Art deco mirror with birds in beaten wrought iron, avant-garde ironwork certainly made during the art deco period of the 1930s. We attribute this mirror to gilbert poillerat or his entourage. Two birds of paradise face each other, presented on a pediment among volutes and various applications of stamped metal, a complex and refined work. Can be hung or placed (on a fireplace for example) on its stylized art deco crenellated legs (see photo details). Left intentionally "in its own juice" for its decorative and authentic side, there remain traces of color (blue / gray) quite faded by time, the mirror is heavily pitted but not broken or scratched. This mirror is entirely period and complete, it can be cleaned and / or repainted according to your wishes. Period: 20th century / 1930s dimensions (h X w X d): 72 X 59 X 4 cm. Weight: 10 kg. Style: art deco materials: wrought iron / mirror. Biography: gilbert poillerat (1902 - june 29, 1988) is a french decorator and master ironworker. His work, often inspired by the art of the 17th and 18th centuries, is the hallmark of french elegance. He also excels in the art of medal chasing. Gilbert poillerat graduated from the boulle school in 1921 and spent eight years with edgar brandt. He quickly became one of the leading french ironworkers (raymond subes, emile robert) after initially devoting himself to chasing and painting. The arabesques of his balustrades made him known to the public. They are, like winged writing, crossed with memories and sweet visions of childhood. Its high bronze doors, decorated with robust and graceful motifs, turn smoothly. His great era was certainly the one that went from the 30s to the 50s. There, he innovated before the others...
