☀️ a rare original color engraving from the chalcography of the louvre! ☀️ this ornithological work measures 76 X 56 cm and has an engraved part of 59 X 42 cm. ☀️ excellent general condition, clean and fresh exemplary, without freckles. Central engraved part in perfect condition. Small indented marks in the low margin and shadows inevitable by the printing technique. ☀️ the original plate used for this board was elaborated around 1800 during the egyptian campaign of napoleon I and is part of the famous series -the description of egypt- this plate was drawn around 1990. ☀️ the drawing is by jules-césar savigny and the engraving by louis bouquet (1765-1814). ☀️ the engraving shows 4 different birds. The complete text of the plate: zoology. Bird. 1. Great collared plover (charadrius hiaticula); 2. Sylvan redhorse (totanus glareolus); 3. Green-footed redhorse (totanus glottis); 4. Cape of good hope rhynchea (rhynchoea capensis)... ☀️ it is enhanced with watercolor and colorized by hand for a beautiful rendering! ☀️ this plate is authenticated by a dry stamp in relief at the bottom of the work. Reference 5142/-.
