While it had been considered, from 1960 to 1970, as an item intended solely for the garden, two major american operators placed a large order for their stores in the early 1970s, proposing rio, in their advertising campaign, as an armchair whose essential shapes adapted to any type of environment. The model was sold at more than half a million pieces per year, experiencing spectacular diffusion. Thus, this project, born in a small town in umbria, reached rockefeller center, the historic mark twain boat, and the cover of a 33 rpm record (una donna per amico) by the famous italian singer lucio battisti, also used by countless sports champions. The rio armchair was a successful intuition and continued to be a best-seller for years.
