Description
Heliography of a sculpture by jean-baptiste defernex representing the antique bust of madame de fonville. Published in 1900. Engraved in sepia ink on thick paper. Format 40 X 30 cm. Good condition, some freckles. A spiritual woman and admired by the mancelle high society of the eighteenth century, madame de fonville was 40 years old in 1759 when the artist painted her portrait. Official sculptor of the duke of orleans, jean-baptiste defernex (1728-1783) is the author of many portraits appreciated for their resemblance. That of madame de fonville is kept at the museum of tessé in le mans. It was exhibited at the universal exhibition of 1900. The heliography was carried out on this occasion.
