Made of solid oak and dated... January 1923! The date is printed inside one of the drawers. Based in london's east end, harris lebus is an iconic manufacturer of the arts and crafts movement. He signed his works with his initials on the locks or, as here, on a keyhole: the lebus desk (desk meaning "desk"). In fact, our desk is one of the unusual models with a single column of drawers. Less bulky, they also have a more "cute" look. Four drawers on the right, topped with a removable board to create additional workspace. Each drawer has its original oak handle. A lock has been added to the top drawer - it is functional. A large drawer behind the front of the left-hand side is divided into compartments for more practical storage. The sliding curtain, in its original patina, works perfectly, as does its key. It is not too high, and when raised, reveals a tray in good condition, with a storage space at the bottom. The smaller ones are partly closed on the side, to best hold the documents. There are also retractable pen holders on the sides. The "ears" of the upper part are flanked by a small wooden bar on each side behind which the mail was slid. A slot allowed the folds to be distributed without having to open the curtain. When lowering, the shutter blocks the opening of the drawers. Ours works but has been "neutralized" (it can be reactivated). It bears the marks of time, a few marks here and there, but it is in its original patina and in superb general condition. Ready to use, and as functional as when it left the factory, in... 1923! H: 102 cm. W: 106 cm. D: 68 cm. Tray height: 78 cm. Legroom: 69 X 65 cm.
