Description
Thonet chaise longue in curved wood, articulated and reclining backrest, real canning. Good condition of the wood and very beautiful patina for this extremely rare piece, historic chair, present in the collections of the viennese museum. The backrest is adjustable in inclination, 7 positions are proposed. As shown in the photos, the chair folds forward. It bears the manufacturer's label "thonet wien". Did you know Michael thonet, master cabinetmaker and furniture designer was born in germany on july 21, 1796 and died on march 3, 1871. In 1853 he passed on his firm to his 5 sons; it then bears the name of "thonet frères" In 1855, he invented the revolutionary technique of autoclave wood bending, which allowed the realization of more solid and cheaper furniture. Its furniture is produced in large series in the late nineteenth century and early twentieth century. At his death, he is considered one of the very first designers of our time. His bistro chair n°14, his bestseller, was produced in several million copies.
