Indonesian teak rice bed coffee table

This monumental Indonesian rice bed was once used daily as a storage chest and as a bed. The top opens through two small hinged doors to reveal a spacious interior compartment where clothes, bedding or dry goods such as rice and cereal could be stored. During the day, the chest could be used as a seat or table, and at night it was padded with bedding to serve as a resting place. Handcrafted from teak wood and minimally decorated, the chest highlights the natural beauty of its material. The top has a beautiful wood grain and one side is simply carved in relief with large medallions. Dimensions. Width 105 cm. Length 205 cm. Height 53 cm.
