Walnut farmhouse console table, directoire period (not the style), late 18th/early 19th century. All the features, original components, design and construction of the piece indicate that the table is of the period. Traditional joinery techniques are present, such as dovetail, mortise and tenon: locking/dowelling joint. All the boards under the drawer bottom are thick and shaped in such a way that they show marks of hand tools, not power tools, indicating that this piece was handcrafted by a craftsman. The wood of the table top is also a sign that the piece is of this period, as similar walnut is not seen today (fibre and density). The table is in good, original and vintage condition for a piece that is nearly 230 years old. Marks and signs of age and previous use as you would expect for a piece of this age, as well as some old repairs to the top, legs and drawer interior. Some old marks and signs of woodworm to the legs, leg ends, sides, drawer interior and general structure (see photos), but the piece has been fully treated, oiled with linseed oil and waxed, respecting its beautiful original patina. The drawer is fully functional and has its original pull (see photos). All photos were taken in natural light, outdoors, and colours may vary depending on the lighting, reflections, angles and perspective from which they are viewed.
