Japanese faceted porcelain cup from izumiyama / karatsu-yaki
Description
Faceted cup in izumiyama porcelain, made by mike martino (gotanbayashi-gama). Its soft glaze makes it a very pleasant object to use. Mike favors the raw aspect of his ceramics to bring out the essence and natural beauty of the materials he works with. He uses local materials (mostly from the mountains around his workshop), which he transforms himself. His glazes are mainly based on natural ash. Mike uses a traditional porcelain extracted from the quarries of izumiyama. This is a porcelain with a raw and naturally blueish appearance that is almost no longer used by modern potters. He transforms it himself, to preserve its texture. It is a more difficult material to shape, which induces more loss during manufacture, than more “refined” porcelain. Mike uses this technique to rediscover the spirit of ancient imari porcelain (made 400 years ago). These cups are handcrafted, their size, color and texture may vary from one model to another. Materials: izumiyama porcelain. Dimensions: diameter 7.5 cm, height 8.5 cm capacity: 18 cl care and use: microwave: no dishwasher: no oven: no food: yes.
