Description
This pair of quintessentially italian mid-century nightstands, most likely designed by paolo buffa, was made in the mid-1950s. Buffa was known for creating designs that blend neoclassical style with art deco motifs and modernist principles, which is clearly evident in these bedside tables. The nightstands are characterized by their exquisite shape, vintage brass ornamentation, and opulent inlays. Carved in walnut with walnut veneer and gently rounded side panels create a beautiful frame for the drawers. The rich grain of the wood, especially evident in the square laid veneer on the drawer fronts, shows the designer’s love for high-quality materials and craftsmanship. The original inset grey glass tops contrast beautifully with the rich tones of the wood, adding visual lightness and a more modern look to the piece. The additional clear glass shelf is ideal for placing your phone while charging at night. These nightstands are a true example of how traditional design began transitioning into modernism. There is a original stamp on the bottom of the glass with date 20 sept. 1957, the details of the company are blurry though. Our team has checked the tables; they are in great original condition, with signs of use according to their age. Buffa’s furniture rarely includes identifying marks, making them difficult to authenticate. Nonetheless, knowing his works and specific aesthetic, we believe these nightstands were most likely designed by this italian designer. Additional dimensions: Internal height of drawers: 7 cm. Height from the ground: 31 cm.
