3054 – silver cutting service stuffed in a case - ate guichard & émile puiforcat - 19th century in their lightly used eggplant case with embossed decoration marked “ate guichard chalons s/saône gold medal”, this stainless steel cutting service with blade marked paris and silver-filled handles in good condition to finish cleaning. It includes a knife and fork with retractable protection. Micro-scratches and tiny small dents from normal use. Head of minerva hallmarks 1st title and that of the master goldsmith ep and a penknife for émile puiforcat inscribed in 1857 and used until 1927. Handles with louis XVI style floral decoration with acanthus leaves, pearls, palmettes and of grooves manually encrypted cp in old letters. Length of knife 320 mm, fork 285 mm. Weight of the whole 610 g. Careful and tracked shipping. For information, puiforcat is a large goldsmithing house founded in 1820 by the brothers émile and joseph-marie puiforcat and their cousin jean-baptiste fuchs. It was taken over by the latter's son-in-law (louis-victor tabouret-puiforcat) until 1902 and then by his son jean puiforcat who made it famous. Purchased in 1943 by johannes poncet then by castille investissement, it came under full control of the hermès group in 1993.
