Description
Originally an architect, sottsass joined his father's architectural practice and helped redesign the modernist version of the buildings destroyed during world war II. Soon after, he moved to milan to create his own architecture and industrial design studio. Over the next 70 years, he produced works that revolutionized the fields of sculpture, photography, jewelry, architecture, interior design and furniture. But of all the things that make ettore sottsass one of the greatest designers of all time, being the founding member of the memphis design movement is probably the most important. Designed in 1990, the demistella for up & up editions is a strange-looking console made of lacquered wood and different types of italian marble. Even though this piece is not considered to be from memphis, it can clearly be seen that it has memphis dna.
