Description
Ghoum carpet, botekh drawing, circa 1920. Old ghoum carpet with repetitive decoration of boteh on the whole field. It is said that the original droplet-shaped persian motif - the boteh or buta - was a representation of a floral wreath combined with a cypress, symbol of life and eternity. The seed-shaped form is also believed to represent fertility and has links to hinduism. Dimensions: 230x140 cm with fringes (about 5 cm per side) Status: good, new fringes, added on each side.
