Vintage mid century modern winter landscape framed oil painting - the long road

The long road. Size: 52 X 60cm (including frame) Oil on canvas. A wonderfully executed sombre oil painting depicting two figures walking down a long open road, dated 1938. The canvas is filled with expressive brushstrokes that have been executed confidently, in a restrained mellow colour palette. The figures could almost be missed at first glance – their size pales in comparison to the vast lands and gloomy skies above them. The painting could point to both the importance of human connection, as well as the insignificance of human life against the scale of the universe. The painting is housed in a robust, heavy silver painted distressed wood frame. The painting is in very good vintage condition, and the frame has some losses to the edges which have been painted over in silver and are thus inconspicuous unless closely inspected. Please note all of the artworks we sell are vintage and unless otherwise stated, their condition is typical for their age. This can sometimes include slight changes in colour, yellowing to the varnish, and minor bumps and bruises. We have tried to include as many close-up photos as possible.
