Description
Born on March 31, 1858, in Verona, Angelo Dall'Oca Bianca hailed from a financially troubled background. Following his father's death, he worked as a laborer to support his family. However, his natural artistic talent emerged, leading him to attend Verona's Cignaroli Academy under the guidance of sculptor Ugo Zannoni. Dall'Oca Bianca's focus on representational painting was evident during this time, and he later moved to Venice to continue his artistic journey. He embraced photography as a tool for his art, and by 1877, he had made his debut at the Brera Academy Exhibition with "Carezze e ammonizioni." His association with art merchants Vittore and Alberto Grubicy boosted his reputation, and he encountered divisionist artists like Giovanni Segantini. Notably, he was awarded the Prince Umberto Prize in 1886 for "Ave Maria gratia piena." His career involved numerous exhibitions in Italy and abroad, garnering recognition, including at the 1900 Paris Universal Exhibition. Despite facing criticism for his style and use of photography, Dall'Oca Bianca remained dedicated to his art. He contributed to Verona's preservation, donating many of his works to the city. In 1939, the Angelo Dall'Oca Bianca Village was established with his donation to help the less fortunate. Angelo Dall'Oca Bianca passed away in Verona on May 18, 1942. His artistic legacy and contributions left an indelible mark on Verona's cultural landscape, reflecting a passionate artist who captured the city's essence and made a lasting impact on the community.
