The ashanti are one of ghana's main ethnic groups, whose kingdom dates back to at least the 15th century. Today, they are best known for female statuettes, called "akuaba dolls", and ceremonial stools. Symbols of political power, these are executed during the enthronement of the chiefs. Most often made of wood, they are cut from a single piece in different species according to the tribes.
