'Monument' - Vintage mid century swedish oil painting

A striking scene of two figures in a continental town square surrounded by landmarks, painted in oil onto board. This painting has been worked in the ‘post impressionist’ style, characterised by strong colours and fierce brushwork. We see loose dabs of the brush, painted in non-naturalistic colours. The artist has chosen not to paint the town scene as it appears in reality, but has instead imbued with an energy, light, and dynamism that shows off his or her emotional connection with the townscape. The town appears quiet, with only two figures visible, but the artist has painted the architecture surrounding them with such vigour that they carry life and energy of their own. This oil on board is in excellent vintage condition. It is housed in an original gilt frame with an inner linen and white border.
