3-seater sofa model JH-803, designed by Hans J. Wegner (1914-2007) in 1970, published by Johannes Hansen in Denmark. Structure in brushed or chromed stainless steel and solid beech, upholstered in beige linen canvas and brown leather. Removable leather cushions inside which are canvas cushions stuffed with Dacron wadding. Please note that this is the first edition of this model in the 1970s made by Johannes Hansen (JH) and not the reissue by Carl Hansen (CH) in the 2000s and still on sale today. It is therefore a piece of approximately 50 years for lovers or collectors of original design! Hans Wegner is one of the greatest Danish designers of the 20th century, he collaborated for a long time with the house of Johannes Hansen which published for three decades many models that he had designed. Here we find all the graphic talent, the power of the lines and the precision of Wegner. The work on the steel and its patinas, the junction of metal and leather, the assembly of the different parts of the structure at the level of the base are all details that are the mark of a great designer. But the design is not only aesthetic, it must also be practical. This sofa offers remarkable comfort, the wadding of the cushions gives a softness close to feathers. As always with Wegner this seat can be admired from all sides, including the back, because its design was intended to be seen at 360 °. Speaking of a chair he said: "We should not be able to distinguish where it begins and where it ends". Bibliography: Christian Holmstedt Olesen, Hans J. Wegner: Just One Good Chair, Hatje Cantz, Copenhagen, 2014. Similar model. Please note two small snags on the back of the backrest and one on the front of about a cm (see detailed photos) a cushion partially restored with new leather of the same color on one side. The straps under the seat have been redone, the whole has traces of normal use.
