Description
Beautiful large botanical board illustrating "hippoglollum". It is a watercolour engraving, on handcrafted cotton paper, bearing the watermark of the high-end italian paper factory "amatruda amalfi". The motif is taken from a major work of the 16th century: the herbarium of besler. "the hortus eystettensis" consists of 367 planks of the most remarkable plants of the garden of the prince-bishop johann konrad von gemmingen (1561-1612) in eichstett. It will have taken 16 years for this undertaking coordinated by botanist basil besler (1561-1629) who presents the plants in the order of flowering seasons. This board is sold under frame, simple in wood. The set is in good condition.
