Magnificent antique “dubarry” vegetable dish – creil & montereau – 1880-1920. French elegance and refinement. For this rare piece in fine earthenware, from the legendary “dubarry” service from the creil and montereau factory. The creil earthenware factory merged with that of montereau in 1840. Lebacqz & cie then took over the operation from 1884 until 1920. This period marked the golden age of fine earthenware known as “bourgeois quality”, often decorated with neo-classical or historicist designs, such as the “dubarry” motif here, probably in homage to the famous favorite of king louis xv, madame du barry – an icon of a certain french refinement. The pink shade used here (often called "english red" in old catalogs) was very popular during the belle époque, especially for dinner services. It evokes the discreet splendor of bourgeois tables of the belle époque. Its delicate decoration of carmine scrolls and its soft cracked patina tell a story of candlelit dinners, in a house with shutters half-open onto the garden. To be placed on a linen tablecloth for a country brunch or to be diverted into a charming fruit bowl. Made between 1884 and 1920. Vintage condition with beautiful patina (old underglaze cracks). No chips or cracks. Diameter: approx. 22 cms in diameter height: 7.5 cms.
