Iznik ceramics appeared during the Ottoman Empire at the end of the 15th century in Turkey in the eponymous city. Today, these objects have a high rating on the art market. Coating ceramics appeared in the 16th century under the impetus of the sultans of the empire. Craftsmen then made tiles to adorn monuments and this ceramic became the symbol of luxury and prestige in European courts. It is very popular with art lovers and can reach a high value at auction. Manufacturing techniques; Iznik ceramics are made from a siliceous paste that is not very malleable, making it difficult to work with. A siliceous engobe envelops the ceramic to give it the appearance of perfectly white porcelain and the decorations are placed under a shiny colorless glaze. It requires 20 hours of firing at 900 °C and 7 days of cooling to avoid cracking.
