Description
Large bust of an unidentified man wearing sideburns and beautiful curly hair. Plaster signed on the side "valois" and dated 1821. Achille valois trained as an artist at the école des beaux-arts in paris under the direction of the painter jacques-louis david and the sculptor antoine-denis chaudet. he won the second grand prix de rome in 1808 on the subject daedalus putting wings on his son icarus. He debuted at the salon of 1814 with a bust of louis XVIII made from life. A version of this bust is currently in the basilica of saint-denis. He was related by his mother to the painter specializing in portraits under louis xv, françois-hubert drouais.
