Alsace stoneware pitcher signed Remmy fils Betschdorf
Description
Very pretty pitcher in alsace sandstone with harmonious lines and decoration with the traditional color, this beautiful cobalt blue, but with the particularity of being finely engraved in the mass. It is signed below, by hand, in hollow “remmy fils, betschdorf”. We can therefore date it precisely between 1971 and 1997, the period of activity of the “remmy fils” company. But this company is part of a much older lineage that still exists today. Indeed, the pottery activity has been passed down from generation to generation since 1594, first in the ardennes, then from 1820 in betschdorf where the company “les grès de remmy” perpetuates this family tradition of artisanal pottery. It holds half a liter as indicated just below the opening. It is in very good condition, with no cracks or chips, proof of the hardness and great resistance of sandstone to alsace salt. It measures approximately 15.5 cm in height, 11 cm in diameter and 15 cm in width including the handle.
