This is an original ceiling lamp made in the 1930s by franta anyz co., and is believed to be designed by jaroslav anyz. Franta anyz was a leading czech designer and jeweller. He was also a founder of a large metalworking factory in prague at the beginning of the 20th century. There he produced many famous design in the art nouveau style and collaborated on projects with renown artists and architects. The company was known for their brilliant technical and artistic quality. Later in the 1920’s with the massive development of electrification, anyz work shifted from metalwork more towards the lightning design. At the beginning of the 1930’s his son jaroslav was appointed as the head lightning designer and was responsible for introducing a move from decorative art nouveau style to a more clean and simpler form of the modernist design. This particular piece is a prime example of that shift. The lamp has a simple geometric form of a milk glass globe that is held by the metal bar in the middle. The actual glass is hold by three screws into the brass plate. This makes replacing the bulb inside easy and safe. The brass disc is then covered by a chrome plated brass plate. The overall quality of materials, with the attention to every detail and perfectly balanced simple geometric forms in the spirit of the radical bauhaus school makes this a timeless piece of design. This rare modernist ceiling lamp shows some patina, mainly on the metal bar. There is some minor wear on the chrome plate. All part are original and fully functional.
