François charles gavet (1753-1840) cutler to the king set of 18 fruit knives period late 18th or early 19th century all blades stamped with the crowned e and "gavet, coutr du roi" length: 20.2cm very good general condition, some handles with cracks box in poor condition françois charles gavet (1753-1840) is the son of jean gavet, cutler to the king. He succeeds him and obtains, in turn, the title of cutler to the king in 1782 as well as an honorable mention in 1806 at the exhibition of industrial products. He runs a store and a factory at 138 rue st honoré which will be taken over by his son charles gavet. Some of his knives are kept at the louvre museum and the metropolitan museum in new york.
