Pair of Loop armchairs by Willy Guhl for Eternit Switzerland 1950s
Description
Loop armchair by willy guhl for the Swiss company eternit. Their collaboration began in the early 1950s with a desire on the part of the Swiss firm to create garden furniture from their raw material, eternit. This fibre cement used for roofing and pipes is resistant to traction, breakage and climatic variations, making it a perfect base for the Swiss designer, working in an era where innovation is a pillar in the thinking of designers. He will succeed in this challenge, once again pushing the limits of design (as he did with his scobalit shell chair). Its structure is obtained by moulding in a wooden mould into which the fibre cement is poured directly, which by its physical properties will solidify to form a chair made of a single ribbon. In good condition, wear and tear consistent with age and use. Bibliography: museum für gestaltung zürich, willy guhl thinking with your hands , lars müller publishers, 2023. Page 143-149
