Alain Richard (1926-2017) was a French designer and interior architect, a major figure in modernist design. Trained at the École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs in Paris, he marked the 1950s and 1960s with his furniture with clean and functional lines, combining metal and wood. Collaborating with the company Meubles TV, he designed emblematic pieces, influenced by functionalism and Scandinavian design. In 1964, Richard received the Grand Prix national du design industriel, a recognition of his rational and elegant approach. He also designed public spaces and worked alongside his wife, textile designer Jacqueline Iribe. His style remains a reference in modern French design, and his works are still prized by collectors.
