Engraved glass vase signed and numbered by Vicke Lindstrand v. 1950-60, very good condition
Description
A transparent glass vase with a stylized decoration by a musician, designed by swedish designer vicke lindstrand (1904-1983) and directed by kosta glasbruk, c. 1950. Marked in diamond cut: "kosta lg 218." this organic-shaped vase with thick glass walls rests on a thick glass base that gives it great stability. The "l" indicates that it was designed by vicke lindstrand and the "g" that it was formed and hand-carved. Very good condition: no cracks or sparkles; normal micro-scratches for this vintage object. History: vicke lindstrand is considered one of the pioneers of swedish glass art. He made his debut as a designer at the stockholm world's fair in 1930, where he presented twelve glass vases with exotic motifs. Lindstrand adds new artistic dimensions to the already famous orrefors glass with its unique designs and the revitalization of shapes. During his time at orrefors, he worked on engraved glass vases. Orrefors, however, could not afford to keep lindstrand during the war, and between 1943 and 1950 he became the creative leader at uppsala ekeby, where he designed many different sandstone objects ranging from pots to figurative sculptures. In 1950, he joined kosta glasbruk as artistic director before retiring in 1973. He practised there as a principal designer and lent his name to many creations that had become classics.
